We pulled together a pretty fun day for Mr. Duke's big #1. Here is a peek at our day:
We started with NEW SHOES!
Sticking with our family birthday tradition we started off with brunch at Woodberry Kitchen, our favorite restaurant. Next year we'll probably go somewhere more "kid appropriate" but for now, we still decide :)
Presents and cake all set for demolition! Since Duke loves strawberries so much I made him a strawberry cake using this recipe. The consistency was a bit more "muffin like" than "cake like" but it was still yummy. And I felt better about letting him eat a cake that I made from scratch without any mystery ingredients. He's not so into presents yet (doesn't really get it) but he LOVES balloons so we made sure to surprise him with a bunch of them. A week later they're still hanging out in the living room.
We did video chat with Grammy, Uncle Jakey, Uncle Butchie and Cousin Pootie for presents and cake. I'm so happy that while we live thousands of miles away Duke still had some family at his "party".
Clearly he liked his cake!
Happy Birthday baby boy! Until next year....
Love,
Mama
