Road Trip Wrap Up

We finished up our road trip with a day at the beach in Hilton Head, a day wandering around Charleston and an overnight in Chapel Hill.

The water in Hilton Head was surprisingly warm.  It felt good to float around in the salty ocean.  It was no Mexico or Hawaii but it was still fun and so good to feel the sand in our toes.

We had dinner at a yummy seafood restaurant that had it's own fishing boats and caught all of their own fish.  It was delicious.  I think this was one of their old abandoned fishing boats.  It was so quiet and the water was so still apart from one sea creature that kept making big disturbances on the surface.  RD thought it was a school of little fish but I was pretty sure it was a huge salt water alligator that was going to leap out of the water like on the Discovery Channel.  We never found out which one of us was right.

We saw these signs earlier in the day when we were driving to the beach.  They are posted all along the road by a long bike/running path.  Are they serious??!!! I guess that's one way to get a good workout...if you're running away from alligators the whole time.  I was pretty sure one was going to sneak up and take a bite out or RD's ankle while we were taking this picture.

After dinner and alligator hunting we played some pirate themed mini golf.  I don't even remember the last time I played mini golf.  It was fun and RD beat my pants off.  It's ok though because then he felt bad and got me some ice cream.

The next morning we drove to Charleston bright and early.  We spent the day wandering around the shops and waterfront.  Charleston is such a beautiful city.  If we had known better we would have planned to spend more time there.  I would love to go back.

We spent our last night in Chapel Hill, NC as a halfway point between Charleston and home.  I spent the morning online looking for somewhere to have breakfast on our way out of town and discovered the Chapel Hill has BISCUIT DRIVE THRU RESTAURANTS.  I mean....huh???  And WHY don't they have these where I live?  There was a lively debate over whether "Biscuitville" or "Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen" had better biscuits.  Well, this one was on our way out of town, and they both sounded pretty good to me.  If you want to see pure joy on my face, look no further.

I really, really love biscuits.  Especially when they have bacon, eggs and cheese in the middle.

Last stop of the trip was this old family owned BBQ restaurant (don't worry, this was hours after the biscuit).  It was in this very old and very neat building.

All in all, we had a great time and are so happy we took the time to go on this little mini getaway together.  Sometimes life gets so busy and other things seem more important, but we try to remember that time together away from the everyday is what creates memories and is part of the glue that holds us together.  We are so excited to have a little baby face popping up in our photos soon.

Love, Chels
